Growing up I fell in love with the idea of being a renaissance man. I read widely and indiscriminately, confusing knowledge with wisdom.
Over the years I have become more selective in my readings and do not hesitate to leave a book unfinished. By virtue of my readings and my work I have gathered “quasi expertise” in variety of areas. However, I have been lazy in assimilating the knowledge and connecting the dots. A lot of people encouraged me to write but I always shied away. I suffered from an impostor syndrome. I felt that if my idea was not unique then it was not worth putting it out there.
As I have become wiser (relatively) I realize that uniqueness of ideas is overrated. Invention should not be confused with innovation. One of the greatest skills in the word is connecting the dots and telling a story.
This blog is an attempt to cover both my professional (investing, finance, tech) and personal (history, arts etc. ) interests. I intend to explore interesting ideas and businesses and ultimately tell a story
I feel writing down my ideas and thoughts and plans will not only make me a better thinker but will also keep me honest. I also hope that writing down will also help me improve as a decision maker.
The name “Variant Perception” is tongue-in-cheek and not to be taken seriously.
